What is a Dental Appliance?

Brushing and flossing is just the beginning when it comes to protecting and maintaining good oral health.

For those of us who play sports, who clench or grind our teeth or who snore, dental appliances can help preserve and protect our oral structures, and the health of our whole bodies.

Dental appliances offered at Pacifica Dental – such as mouth guards and sleep apnea devices – are used to help protect the health of your oral cavity.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep disorders not only disrupt your sleep, they can also have a negative impact on your overall health and well-being.

When patients snore, their relaxed throat tissues cause the airway to restrict, creating the sound of snoring as oxygen is forced past.

If a patient suffers from sleep apnea, their throat tissues over-relax and obstruct the airway, forcing the brain to wake them up to breathe.

At Pacifica Dental, our team of dental professionals is able to provide custom-fitted oral appliances to move the lower jaw and tongue muscles to open the airway. This helps improve your flow of breath and prevents you from waking up throughout the night.

Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards

We offer custom-made mouth guards that fit over your teeth to protect them from damage.

Sports Guards

If you get hit in the mouth during a sports activity, a mouth guard provides a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth to protect your smile.

Night Guards

In patients who grind their teeth, a mouth guard can help protect their teeth from damage. If you clench your jaw, a mouth guard can cushion your teeth helping to prevent clenching and providing some pain relief.
